On the 31 October, 2005, I arrived at Hong Kong Hong guan station after a 24 hours train journey from Beijing west station.
It was an interesting journey, as the most south place I had ever been is some place in Hubei, but that journey took me cross China from Beijing to Hongkong.
It really was a different world, as when I got out the station the first scene that I saw is the demonstration of Falungong. After a little bit struggling to try to find a bus to HKU, I decided to take a taxi to the students apartment building that Ray helped me booked.
I till remembered what the driver told me, it was golden time in 80s and 90s, everyone can do 3 or 4 jobs. Not now.
4 bags are fine to carry, as I did it. It was not very easy. Communication with the apartment workers, a little problem, but it is ok when I tried to do it in English and slow Mandarin. Finally I set up myself in a room on 23 floors. Then I need find something to feed myself and had a short visit to EEE department.
I did find where the department is. Ask is the best way. Then I know where I should go in the next day. I also need change some money in HK dollar.
It is funny or stupid in other people’s opinion. I met a guy there, and then I directly ask: I need change some money, where can I do that. I was lucky, his name is Andy; he is nice not only walked with me a long way to find one, also showed me the supermarket that I used in the following half year. Later I gave him a pack of Mahua, he was very happy.
It was like a movie, half years later before I left hongkong, I walked down the steps again to the supermarket. I met him again. Although he gave me him phone number, I didn’t contact him, but just before I left hongkong, I met the first guy I met in Hong Kong again.
Life is beautiful! It needs to be finding out.
