Bird nest is expensive dish in China, also it is shortage and supposed to be full of nutrients. In old time, normally emperor and rich or important people can afford that, it is not for common people.
A few species of swift, are renowned for building the nests used to produce bird nest. That edible nests are among the most expensive animal products consumed by humans. The nests have been traditionally consumed in China for over four-hundreds years.
It is normally from the White-nest swiftlet and the black-nest swiftlet. It are supposedly rich in nutrients which are traditionally believed to provide health benefits, such as aiding dignesion, raising libido, improving the voice, alleviating asthma, increasing concentration, and an overall benefit to the immune system.
The nests are built during the breeding season by the male swiftlet over a period of 35 days. They take the shape of a shallow cup stuck to the cave wall. A lot of people in South Asian area make living by picking bird nest, it is dangerous job, as it is normally not easy to pick them down. The nests are composed of interwoven strands of salivary laminae cement and high level of calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium, also contain argan oil.
