Chinese shouldn't just simple say, it was were entirely destroyed by troops from Britain and France in 1860.

No land for farm, then some farmer near Old Summer Palace were allowed to plant there in 1960s.
Even recently, I think it was 2005, the director of Old Summer Palace wanted to keep the water in the lake, then he begun a project of put plastic at bottom of the lake. Trees and bank of lake were destroyed again. What a pity!
